National Lampoon's Animal House is a 1978 American comedy film directed by John Landis and written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney and Chris Miller. It stars John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Verna Bloom, Thomas Hulce and Donald Sutherland. The film is about a trouble-making fraternity whose members challenge the authority of the dean of the fictional Faber College. In 1962, Boon was apart of Delta Tau Chi and was on the brink of being expelled by Dean Vernon Wormer.

The next morning, Boon discovers Katy has spent the night with English professor Dave Jennings. Babs tells Marmalard that Mandy and Otter have been having an affair; Marmalard has Babs lure Otter to a motel where the Omegas beat him up. Due to the Deltas' dismal midterm grades, Wormer expels them all from Faber and gleefully tells them he will notifiy their local draft boards that they have lost their student deferments, making them eligible for military service. With Otter's support, Bluto rallies the Deltas to seek revenge during the annual Homecoming parade.

While Dean Vernon Wormer favors the former, the latter is the bane of his existence. When two socially awkward freshmen, Larry and Kent, arrive at the college, they attempt to become a part of the Omegas but are rejected. Now, with their feet on the ground, Larry and Kent turn to the notorious fraternity of the Deltas, where they are accepted. "What we need right now," Otter tells his fraternity brothers, "is a stupid, futile gesture on someone's part." And no fraternity on campus -- on any campus -- is better qualified to provide such a gesture than the Deltas. They have the title role in "National Lampoon's Animal House," which remembers all the way back to 1962, when college was simpler, beer was cheaper, and girls were harder to seduce.

The University of Oregon stood in for the fictional Faber College as the team utilized the campus to the best of their abilities. While the Johnson Hall in Central Campus doubled for the Administration Building of Faber College, the Gerlinger Hall on the Women’s Memorial Quadrangle stood in for the Emily Dickinson Hall of the fictional college. Most of the pivotal sequences for ‘National Lampoon’s Animal House’ were lensed in Eugene, the second largest city in Oregon, right after Portland. The Dr. A.W. Patterson House at 751 East 11th Street doubled for the Delta House, but the property has been demolished. As for the interior scenes involving the Omega House were recorded in the Phi Kappa Psi house and the Sigma Nu house at 729 East 11th Street and 763 East 11th Avenue, respectively.

At Harding University, a private Christian university affiliated with the Churches of Christ, Titans Men's Social Club refuses to put on a spring formal for its members. Instead, the men of Titans choose to celebrate an event called "TOGA" which is heavily inspired by the iconic toga concert from the movie. In the 1980s, it was difficult for Titans to throw a Valentine's Day function because the vast majority of members were busy attending Valentine's Day functions put on by the Women's Social Clubs on campus. In a stroke of genius, the Titans administration decided to celebrate Groundhog Day rather than Valentine's Day. Over time, the Groundhog Day party evolved into the famous TOGA banquet and concert it is today. The members and their dates dress up in their togas and attend a dinner where superlatives are distributed and other activities occur.
After all of them fail at a test because of the Omegas, they through a toga party and are later expelled. After this happens, Boon later finds Katy cheating on him with Prof. Jennings. The next day, the Deltas decide to ruin the homecoming parade with Bluto, Otter, Boon and D-Day all riding in the Deathmobile. For any guy who's ever had the figurative sand kicked in his face by a jock or been placed in the "dweeb corner" at the cool-guy party, John Landis' film is wish fulfillment.

So when the guys steal Doug Neidermeyer's horse and put it in the dean's office for fun, and their grades come out far below the required level to stay at the school, the dean pulls their charter and expels the guys. Animal House was the first film produced by National Lampoon, the most popular humor magazine on college campuses in the mid-1970s.[12] The periodical specialized in satirizing politics and popular culture. Many of the magazine's writers were recent college graduates, hence its appeal to students all over the country. They made their debut in 1973's National Lampoon's High School Yearbook, a satire of a Middle America 1964 high school yearbook. Kroger's and Pepperidge's characters in the yearbook were effectively the same as their characters in the movie, whereas Vernon Wormer was a P.E. Of the younger lead actors, only the 28-year-old Belushi was an established star, but even he had not yet appeared in a film, having gained fame as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, which was in its third season in the autumn of 1977.
Pinto resists the temptation to rape her and instead takes her home in a shopping cart. He later discovers that she is the 13-year-old daughter of Carmine DePasto, the town mayor. Wanting to remove the Delta fraternity, which is on probation due to numerous conduct violations and overall poor academic standing, Dean Vernon Wormer directs Greg Marmalard, the Omegas' president, to get fellow Omega and ROTC Cadet Commander Douglas C. Neidermeyer to find a reason to expel Delta house. Various incidents deepen the animosity between Delta, Omega, and Wormer, including the accidental death of Neidermeyer's horse during a retaliatory prank for bullying ROTC member Flounder. Otter flirts with Mandy, having previously had sex with her, unbeknownst to Marmalard.
It's more fun to go along for the prank-playing, wild ride while singing along with the amazingly energetic soundtrack. If you think too hard about it, Animal House isn't a whole lot better than today's teen sexploitation films like American Pie. Note that there's a lot of dated humor; you may need to explain to teens why jokes about things like having sex with a minor were considered funny back in the day. “Animal House,” which was made for $2.1 million, went on to gross $141.6 million domestically after its release on July 28, 1978. Bluto (John Belushi), Otter (Tim Matheson), and the other guys of Delta house are seven-year seniors who use their time at school to score with girls, have toga parties, and generally enjoy themselves. But Dean Wormer and the bullies of Omega house are out to harsh their mellow. The dean puts the fraternity on "double secret probation" and plans to throw them out at their next infraction.
